DIID (erstwhile Computer Centre) is mandated with Electronic Data Processing (EDP) including Data Preparation and Management, Development of application software for MoSPI; Data Documentation, Archiving & Dissemination as per international standard using IHSN toolkit wherein Microdata of Census & Survey are exported into formats like SPSS, SAS, STATA, CSV and delimited text file via web application secured with login/ password
This division provides NIC Cloud Services (Meghraj) for hosting and maintenance of the applications / portals to divisions of Ministry.
Other miscellaneous activities include transformation of National Accounts data into Statistical Data Metadata Exchange (SDMX) format, conducting IT Training for the ISS / SSS probationers / Non-ISS cadre officers sponsored by the Ministry, development of GIS based web enabled online query system of Economic Census and other Census and surveys conducted by the Ministry.
DIID is in the process of developing a National Integrated Information Platform (NIIP) for official statistics in the country. NIIP will be the state-of-the-art digital repository of all official statistics with homogenized meta-data.
NIIP will provide high end tools for data analytics of socio- economic data to Central Ministries / State Governments and other stakeholders, including general public.
This platform stores the data into logical subject areas in manner that is easily accessible and understandable even by non-technical decision makers and deliver data/ information to decision makers through report writing and query tools.
Under the proposed IT initiatives of the Ministry, Data Informatics and Innovation Division (DIID) has been mandated to imbibe new Information technology solutions in the field of data acquisition, processing and dissemination. Acknowledging the requirement of continual improvement through innovations, a Data Innovation- Lab (DI-Lab) is proposed to be set up under DIID.
To promote innovation, adoption of Information Technology in the field of official statistics and address the challenges of the National Statistical System (NSS).
Data Innovation Lab will create an ecosystem for experimentation, offering of new ideas & their Proof-of-Concept through wider participation of the entrepreneurs, start-up and academic-research organizations.
